2022 Fall Read-a-Thon

Welcome to the first interdistrict Quad-School Read-a-Thon! Participating schools — Wildwood, Beach, Havens, and Bridges Academy at Melrose — are joining efforts to promote literacy, reading and summer fun for all!

This year's Read-a-Thon will run through August 23, 2022.

Registration is now open!

Money raised by readers at Wildwood and other elementary schools will go toward support for Bridges Academy, an OUSD school in the Lockwood Garden neighborhood educating more than 400 students in TK-5th grades.

At Bridges, many of its students are “the firsts” — the first in their families to have consistent access to formal schooling, to finish elementary, middle, high school and/or college and to attend school in the United States. Money raised in this year's Read-a-Thon will go toward the purchase of much-needed classroom supplies and support its school events.

We are excited to support all students along their journeys to their fullest potential as lifelong readers and learners!

We're using the web-based fundraising system Pledgestar, a user-friendly tool for family and friends to pledge and donate. You’ll get notified each time a pledge is made, and can track your progress online. (All students are encouraged to track their summer reading on Pledgestar, even if they're not fundraising.)

All participants will be eligible to win prizes for most minutes read and funds raised.

All Kindergarten-4th graders at Bridges Academy are receiving a summer packet that includes a summer journal with instructions and reading log, as well as a rainbow pencil, glue stick and stickers for recording, decorating and creating in the journal. Students that turn in their summer journals at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year are entered into a drawing for gift cards, toys and books. A student can also win if she/he/they fill the journal with their own writing, art and creativity!

The Read-a-Thon is a great tool to help our students keep reading skills tuned over the summer break. It's also an awesome way to support education and foster community. We're excited to do it again this summer!
